Bernie Sanders: Democrat In Democrat’s Clothes

Jimmy Dore starts off this segment from The Jimmy Dore Show by reminding viewers that the contest within the Democratic primary this year is very similar to what used to happen in the general election. Bernie Sanders is standing up for working people, and Hillary Clinton is a friend to corporations and defender of big money in politics. Clinton’s side in this used to be called “Republican,” and Sanders’ was called “Democrat.” Now, apparently, Clinton is the Democrat and Sanders is the socialist or “extreme” liberal.

As the Democratic Party moves to the right, Dore explained, the Republican Party moves even further to the right. They’re never going to meet right in the middle, which is why Obama- and Clinton-esque “negotiation” skills don’t work. Obama proposed the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare or Romneycare, and Republicans said they hated it. Obama could have done what a Democrat would do, which is be a liberal, propose Medicare for all, and perhaps meet somewhere in the middle when Republicans push back with Romneycare.

Last week, Sanders joined Verizon workers on strike demanding better wages, and Clinton supporters managed to portray this as a bad, or somehow undemocratic, thing. Dore showed a tweet from a Twitter user called @CC4Future who slammed Sanders for this “photo op.”

“That’s what you’re supposed to do as a politician,” Dore said. “You show up, you bring the media, you get attention, he gave a speech.”

What do these people want, the Clintons and Obamas, who were nowhere to be found? Is it better to do nothing because taking a picture doesn’t do enough? This Clinton campaign is really something. Finally, the voiceless are given a voice. Oh no, I don’t mean those whose voices have been silenced, I mean those who choose not to raise their voices because they’re cowards who fear emotional and political risk. Finally these individuals have been vindicated and justified by a powerful woman who shares their affinity for the watered-down, middle of the road.
